How To Set Up a Home Workspace That Will Inspire Productivity

3 December 20

Working from home can have its perks and its cons. However, one of the most popularly discussed topics concerning work from home is productivity and efficiency. While this obviously greatly depends on the person himself, there are several tips and tricks that could boost productivity for even the laziest people.

We already discussed effective time management in this blog post and how to stay productive at home in the post here. This time, we will cover how to set up the perfect workspace to inspire productivity. Ready? Let’s go.

Have a dedicated space

First and foremost, make sure you have a dedicated space to work. Pick one spot in your home and stick with it consistently. This is important so you could separate your home life from your work life. You want this spot to be associated with work purposes only.

Unclutter your environment

Sometimes, people underestimate the importance of having an uncluttered environment. Cluttered spaces can trigger stress, reduce efficiency, and, obviously, distract you. Therefore, try to keep your workspace as tidy as possible. This doesn’t necessarily mean that your desk should be completely empty, however, avoid keeping tons of papers, empty cups, or non-work related things around you that could strongly detract from your productivity, not to mention your concentration.

Have good lighting

Good lighting is essential not only for focus and productivity but for your overall feeling of well-being as well. Ideally, position yourself close to a window to get some natural light. However, if that’s not possible, just assure that your work spot is well lit. Aim for cool and light lighting – this will be closest to natural lighting.

Sit comfortably (but not too comfortably)

This may sound pretty obvious, but when you’re not sitting comfortably and feeling pain or discomfort, naturally, you won’t be able to focus on work as well as you could. You want your computer screen to be at eye level and about 75 cm from your face. Grab a desk chair if you can. If not, work with the best that you can find. However, avoid sitting on a sofa or lying in bed! Being too comfortable, you’re likely not to get as much work done as you could.

Have a non-distracting view

Pay attention to what will be in front of you when you’re sitting in your work spot. Is it a window? A blank wall? Or a full view of the living room where your whole family will be spending their time? Make sure the view is non-distracting.

In the end, your productivity depends on a lot of other things too, such as time management, stress, and your well-being. However, creating an inspiring environment will surely bring you a step closer to a productive you. We hope these tips will be of help to you and wish you happy and efficient working!
