What Is The New Social Media App Clubhouse All About?

18 March 21

Have you been hearing about Clubhouse a lot lately yet don’t fully understand its concept? In short, Clubhouse is a new, invitation-only, audio-based social networking app, but let us explain a bit further.

To start with, you can’t just download the app from the app store and start using it. You have to receive an invite from an existing member. The invite will be in the form of a text message with a link directing you to the sign-up page in the app. However, existing members don’t have unlimited invitations either. Each new member can send out two invites.

Once you are in, you create a profile and select people or topics you are interested in, such as business, health, tech, books, etc. The more topics you select, the more conversation rooms the app will recommend for you.

Here comes the fun part. Conversation rooms are like conference calls or podcasts, with some of the people talking and others just listening in. So, basically, it’s like listening to a live podcast exclusively. You can join and leave at any time and there are no pictures or videos – just audio. Any user can start a conversation room that others can join. Each room will have speakers, listeners, and moderators who control who gets to speak. Listeners can also “raise their hand” asking for speaking privileges. But here’s the catch – once the call is over, the room is closed and you can’t listen to it again. That is unless you record it yourself.

Clubhouse has become a popular place for celebrities and media personalities to share their stories and insights. Some of the famous celebrities using the app include Oprah, Drake, Elon Musk, Kevin Hart, Mark Zuckerberg, Ashton Kutcher, Scooter Braun, Wiz Khalifa, Lupe Fiasco, and more.
