Jeff Bezos will be flying to space

21 June 21

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos will fly to space on his space company’s Blue Origin first passenger flight on July 20th.

“Ever since I was five years old, I’ve dreamed of traveling to space,” Bezos commented under a video he posted to Instagram.

Joining him will be his brother Mark as well as a lucky auction winner. The auction concludes on June 12th.

“I wasn’t even expecting him to say that he was going to be on the first flight,” Mark Bezos said in the Instagram video. “What a remarkable opportunity, not only to have this adventure but to do it with my best friend.”

The trip will take place with New Shepard, which is a rocket that carries a capsule to the edge of space. New Shepard has already flown over a dozen successful test flights without any passengers on board.

The capsule can carry up to six passengers and there are no pilots. The plan is to launch this capsule more than 100 km (62 miles) above Earth’s surface, where passengers will get a nice view of Earth due to the specially designed massive windows. Afterward, it will return to Earth under parachutes.

“To see the Earth from space, it changes you. It changes your relationship with this planet, with humanity,” Bezos said. “It’s an adventure; it’s a big deal for me.”
