Have remote employees? Here’s how to onboard them

20 April 21

Onboarding plays a very important role in the success of a new hire. And now that hiring remote employees has become the new norm, good onboarding is even more essential. Remote workers don’t have the same opportunities to integrate into the team as they would in the office. Therefore, it’s your job to ensure the smoothest and most effective remote onboarding processes for them. Here are some of our top tips.

Help employees set up their workspace

Order computers and other equipment that they will need for their job, and make sure it’s delivered to their address. On top of that, be sure to ask them if they have a comfortable spot to work from. If not, consider lending them a chair or desk from the office.

Create a 2-week plan

Schedule them a bunch of onboarding meetings (3-4 per day) where they will get to learn about the company and its projects. This way you can ensure that they are introduced to all the people, processes, and projects they will be working on.

Encourage personal connections

Since newly hired remote workers don’t get to interact with others in the office, try to encourage your team to reach out to the new employee virtually and say hi. Schedule introduction meetings, team buildings, and make sure they have time to meet each other. This will help the new hire feel like part of the team.

Ask for feedback

Most importantly, pay close attention to how your remote employee is feeling and ask them for feedback throughout the onboarding process. This will allow you to continually improve with each new hire.
