Elon Musk’s Tesla Master Plan

4 April 22

In Q1 of 2022 Tesla has delivered 310,048 electric vehicles to consumers. It is almost twice as much as they did last year. The company is on the rise with Tesla Model S and X Plaid versions becoming the hot topic of the auto industry in 2022. It also seems that Tesla is just immune to professional investors’ traditional share price evaluations, trading way over what their actual earnings would suggest. What most investors don’t realize is that Tesla’s high share price is a result of its promise of the future. This brings us to Elon’s 3-step master plan for Tesla.

1st Stage

The first stage was Tesla’s cars. The first introduced product was a high-end sportscar Tesla Roadster. Tesla got criticized initially because instead of bringing an affordable EV to the market they were selling a car that was out of reach for most.

It went against their mission statement of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy. This could be explained by the simple fact that it is very hard to be profitable when the technology is at its infancy. The Roadster was the hero product of Tesla, designed to show the world the abilities of EVs and that they could compete with the top tier sports cars.

The profits made by the Roadster fueled the second phase which was the development of the mid-range car – the Model S. The process was once again repeated going to the affordable EV market with the introduction of the Model 3.

2nd Stage

The second stage of Tesla’s master plan is the integration of energy creation and storage. Tesla has acquired SolarCity and branched out into products like the new Tesla Powerwall which stores solar energy and could be used as a backup energy source in homes. To raise interest in the company and fund the second stage of its master plan, the company plans to split its shares, making buying whole shares more affordable.

Another important part of the second stage is for Tesla to automate its production more. Designing and updating their factory machinery. Tesla has also opened a new factory in Berlin to cut delivery time to European customers. Production of Tesla cars should ramp up soon. A new factory in Texas is under construction as well.

3rd Stage

The third stage isn’t clear yet, but it could be closely related to further development of AI and autonomous driving, as well as branching out to personal air transportation.
