Apple Plans to Launch an iPhone Subscription Service

28 March 22

We have all been there – having your morning coffee, scrolling your phone, and seeing an all new iPhone announced. You love the design and features but as soon as you check the pricing you put your dreams to rest. However, it seems that in the near future the newest iPhone or iPad could become way more accessible.

Later this year (or in early 2023), Apple is planning to start offering a subscription service for their hardware. This initiative is part of Apple’s ongoing move towards subscription services. With the knockout success of Apple’s other subscription services like Apple Music, Apple TV Plus, Apple News Plus, Apple Fitness Plus, and Apple Arcade, it is a logical move to start offering same services for the iPhone and the iPad.

We do not have the complete picture on how the subscription service is going to look yet. Latest reports show that users would be paying fixed fees to get the latest hardware and upgrades. It is important to note that the fee amount will not be the phone’s price divided by payable months, but rather a long-term subscription fee. The subscription would be tied to the Apple ID account and could also offer free Apple care and Apple One services as part of the bundle.

So far, there’s no official information on pricing from Apple, but experts speculate it to be between $20 and $40 per month. This move to a subscription service from installments would cut out the middleman with all profits going straight to Apple as well as potentially inflating the current customer base.

Offering subscription services for hardware is a welcome initiative from Apple that could be a win-win situation for both the company and the customer.
