Facebook Extends Work From Home Policy To July 2021

13 August 20

Last month, tech giant Google announced that it will let its employees work remotely until July 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Now, Facebook has decided to do the same.

48,000 Facebook employees were already working from home since the stay-at-home order started back in March and it was previously announced that they would continue to work remotely until the end of 2020. However, now, Facebook seems to have extended this date to mid-summer 2021.

“Based on guidance from health and government experts, as well as decisions drawn from our internal discussions about these matters, we are allowing employees to continue voluntarily working from home until July 2021,” announced Facebook spokesperson Nneka Norville. But it doesn’t just stop at that – turns out they are also giving employees “an additional $1,000 for home office needs”.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg also previously mentioned that they are planning on permanently shifting certain jobs to remote positions. “I think that it’s possible that over the next five to 10 years — maybe closer to 10 than five, but somewhere in that range — I think we could get to about half of the company working remotely permanently,” he told The Verge.

Facebook and Google are not the only tech giants to extend their remote work policy. California-based company Apple also previously mentioned that its employees won’t be returning to offices until early 2021.
