Google Employees Will Work Remotely Until September

14 January 21

Google previously announced employees would be working remotely until July 2021. Now, the search-engine giant decided to extend their work from home policy to September. But that’s not the only change coming from them.

Apart from pushing back its return to the office, Google is also planning to test having a flexible workweek once the conditions are safe. Their idea is that employees would work in the office for 3 days and work from home the rest of the week.

“No company at our scale has ever created a fully hybrid workforce model — though a few are starting to test it — so it will be interesting to try,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai said.

Though a fully-remote option wasn’t offered and some employees (who need to access specialized equipment) may not be eligible for this model, this is still quite a big step the company is planning to take and we are interested to see how it will turn out. Who knows, Google may be setting an example for other companies as well.

While Google was one of the earliest tech giants to go fully remote due to the ongoing pandemic, they surely weren’t the only ones. We’ve seen various companies extend their work from home policies lately, including MicrosoftFacebook, and Netflix
