24 December 20

Whether it’s that huge work assignment, that home renovation project or that difficult conversation – everyone has things they put off until the very last minute. What if we told you there were some ways to avoid this and stop procrastinating?

Here are 6 tips & tricks to stop procrastination:

1. Write down your daily tasks

While this sounds like such a simple thing, writing out your daily tasks can make a huge difference in the way you get things done. Not only will you know what exactly has to be done, but crossing things off the list will give you a sense of accomplishment.

2. Set deadlines

Don’t get trapped in the cycle of “tomorrow”, “eventually” or “someday”. If you want to renovate your bathroom, set yourself a deadline and stick to it.

3. Break big jobs into little steps

A big work project can look intimidating at first, you may not even know where to start. Try breaking it down into mini assignments instead. This way it won’t look as intimidating.

4. Tell others about your goals

Tell your family, friends or colleagues about any big tasks you are taking up. It’s a great way to keep yourself accountable.

5. Try the Pomodoro technique

This is a great technique that suggests working in sprints. All you have to do is set a timer for 25 minutes and dedicate this time to a precise task. After 25 minutes of focused work, take a break, and repeat the cycle again.

Note: During the 25 minutes of working, make sure to turn off all distractions, including messages and emails on your computer.

6. Meditate in the mornings

You’d be surprised how many benefits a short 10-minute meditation session has – and helping with procrastination is one of them! Morning meditation will help you feel calm, set the tone for the day, and focus better.

And there you have it – 6 tips & tricks to stop procrastination. Hopefully, they’ll help you deal with the urge of putting things off.
