The Gates Foundation Is Putting “Total Attention” On COVID-19

27 April 20

From working on the eradication of diseases such as HIV and malaria and polio, it seems that now the Gates Foundation is slightly shifting gears. In a recent interview, Microsoft founder Bill Gates stated that his foundation will be working “almost entirely” on the coronavirus pandemic in the future.

Back in 2008, Gates left his full-time job at Microsoft to focus on foundation work. Currently, the Gates Foundation has an endowment of more than $40 billion and has worked on various diseases such as HIV, malaria, polio, and now – COVID-19.

Even though the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is already working with the World Health Organization as well as other health organizations around the globe, now it seems they want to devote even more of their attention to the virus. Not to mention, as stated in a press release, the Gates Foundation has already pledged $250 million “to support development of diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccines; help strengthen African and South Asian health systems; and help mitigate the social and economic impacts of the virus.”

Gates also spoke about President Trump’s plan to suspend funding for the WHO earlier this month tweeting: “Halting funding for the World Health Organization during a world health crisis is as dangerous as it sounds. Their work is slowing the spread of COVID-19 and if that work is stopped no other organization can replace them. The world needs WHO now more than ever.”
