SpaceX Sends More Starlink Satellites to Orbit for Better Internet Connectivity on Earth

15 June 20

Elon Musk’s rocket company just launched 58 new Starlink satellites on its Falcon 9 as well as 3 SkySat satellites to orbit. The Starlink satellites are a part of the growing Starlink constellation aimed to improve internet connectivity on Earth. As of now, SpaceX has the approval to put 12,000 satellites in orbit, but this number may increase in the future. As for the SkySat satellites, these are for the observation of Earth and will help Planet Labs develop imagery of the Earth’s surface. Three more Planet Labs satellites are expected to go up in July.

Overall, the satellite launch was successful and the Falcon 9 has already returned to Earth, landing on the Of Course I Still Love You drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean.

Keen to know more about the Starlink satellites? SpaceX launched a Starlink website where you can sign up to receive “updates on Starlink news and service availability in your area”. Private beta testing of these internet satellites is expected to begin later this summer, followed by public testing.
