Youtube Will Put Ads On Videos Without Paying The Creators

28 December 20

Youtube recently updated its Terms of Service and content creators aren’t happy about it.

The video platform giant used to show ads on creators’ videos that were part of the monetization program. Now, Youtube will be showing ads on non-partner videos as well, where creators won’t even receive a cut.

Basically, content creators won’t have a say in whether they want ads shown on their videos or not. The only thing they could do is apply for the Youtube Partner Program (YPP), in which they will be able to monetize from those ads. The YPP requires creators to have at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 public watch hours over the past 12 months.

According to Youtube, the reason for this change is “ongoing investments in new solutions, like Home Feed ads, that help advertisers responsibly tap into the full scale of YouTube to connect with their audiences and grow their businesses.” Of course, this way Youtube will be able to generate more money from all the content uploaded to Youtube, not just the content that is part of the YPP.

While Youtube did not say how many creators will begin to unexpectedly see ads on their videos, they did say they will run ads on channels of all sizes.

These new changes are already effective in the US and will be effective in other countries from mid-2021.
